Spanning over 1.2 kilometers, the baroque gardens of Schönbrunn are a masterpiece of landscape design. Explore manicured parteres, hidden paths, historic fountains, and architectural follies.
The Palace Park
Designed in the French baroque style in the 18th century, the Schönbrunn Palace Park is free to enter during opening hours. The park gates open at 6:30 AM daily. The formal gardens closest to the palace showcase geometric patterns, precisely trimmed hedges, and seasonal flowers.
Beyond the formal areas, discover romantic woodland paths, historic structures, and world-class botanical collections. Special attractions like the Privy Garden, Orangery Garden, Maze, and Gloriette require separate admission tickets. Allow 1-2 hours to explore the main highlights, or spend a full day wandering the extensive grounds.

Neptune Fountain
Monumental baroque fountain at the base of the hill. Neptune and sea nymphs in dramatic marble sculptures. One of the garden's most photographed spots.
Roman Ruin
Picturesque "ruins" built in 1778 as a romantic garden folly. Artificial ancient Roman architecture complete with arches, columns, and reflecting pool.

Obelisk Fountain
Baroque fountain with Egyptian-inspired obelisk surrounded by turtles and river gods. Built in 1777 as part of the garden's exotic decorative scheme.
Privy Garden
The Empress's private garden, restored to its 18th-century splendor. Intricate hedge patterns, statues, and seasonal floral displays in a secluded setting.
Orangery Garden
Formal garden area adjacent to the Orangery building. Historically used to display citrus trees in summer. Beautiful parterre designs and sculptures.
Beautiful Fountain
"Schöner Brunnen" – the fountain that gave the palace its name. Legend says Emperor Matthias discovered this spring in 1612 and declared it "beautiful."

Best Time to Visit
Early morning for peaceful walks and golden light. Spring (April-May) for blooming flowers. Summer evenings stay light until 9 PM.
What to Bring
Comfortable walking shoes essential. Hat and sunscreen in summer. The gardens are large – allow plenty of time and consider bringing water and snacks.
Combination Tickets
Classic Pass includes palace tour plus Privy Garden, Orangery Garden, Maze, and Gloriette. Best value if you want to explore beyond the main gardens.
